Mahogany is by far one of the highest quality woods when it comes to furniture construction. I found some Asian night stands made of mahogany from that caught my eye. First off, I was happy to read where all their wood comes from reclaimed mahogany or from plantation certified timber to ensure continuation of this precious resource. Further, Tansu’s products are made by hand and constructed using mortise and tenon joinery techniques. These techniques were employed hundreds of years ago to construct furniture without the use of nails. In today’s furniture market, any company offering mortise and tenon joinery techniques typically indicates more expensive furniture due to higher labor costs.
The two night stands featured here are the Africa and the Lotus. Both of these pieces take their design from Asian influence. The Africa combines wood and woven leather to create an exotic look. The Lotus draws upon more traditional Asian roots such as the stain color and the carved image on the front. Both of these pieces carry a moderate price tag for solid mahogany furniture.
