The archetypical home lock is now pretty much redundant thanks to the influx of technology in the designsphere. So it is no surprise, that industrial designers are hard at work to design solutions that adhere to the principle of form and function.
One such example is the August Smart Lock, which incorporates all encompassing mobile technology with design. Brainchild of Yves Behar and Jason Johnson, the lock works on three principles , which are; simpler, safer, social . The home lock works in conjunction with an app and can be installed with existing deadbolts. The app works as a virtual key, and also web-site log-in.
The lock is safer than the traditional key, since it has encrypted security. It also has a nifty smart lock feature, which associates a person to a home, so that it can identify who you are through the app. What makes August attractive is also the fact that it is reasonably priced and will retail under $200.
